About Porch & Pick
Porch & Pick is a small, independent publication of buying guides for everyday home life: the kitchen, the rest of the house, pets, the yard and the workshop.
Most product pages tell you what a thing is. Very few tell you whether it is the right thing for your situation: a damp basement instead of a dry one, a cat that drinks too little, a first drill bought by someone who mostly hangs shelves. That gap is what we write for.
What you'll find here
Every guide starts with a fit check: who the product type suits, who should skip it, and the one or two specs that decide whether it will work in your home. After that we explain the trade-offs in plain language, show what the numbers on the box really mean, and answer the questions people ask before they buy.
What we don't do
- We don't claim to have tested products we haven't tested. If a guide is based on published specifications, certifications and owner feedback, it says so.
- We don't invent star ratings, scores or "lab results".
- We don't publish prices that can go stale. Retailers change prices constantly, so we point you to the current listing instead.
How the site makes money
Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, the retailer or brand may pay us a commission. You don't pay more because of it. Commissions keep the site running, but they don't decide what we recommend: a product type we think is a poor fit for you gets that verdict whether or not it pays. Brands can't pay to be included or to change what we write. You can read the details on our affiliate disclosure page.
Corrections
Specs change, products get revised and we sometimes get things wrong. If you spot an error, tell us. We fix factual mistakes and update the date at the top of the guide when we make a meaningful change.
